STUDY SKILLS

Text: How to Improve Your Study Skills, 2nd edition, by Marcia Coman and Kathy Heavers

We provide instruction in Study Skills during the Latin 1 time segment to build a foundation for good study habits and techniques for all of our first-year students. This class is designed to help the middle school student identify his/her own specific learning style so he/she studies smarter, not harder! We will discuss study environment, study sequence, and budgeting/scheduling study time as a priority. Then we will examine and practice a variety of study and note-taking techniques. We will also explore memory and test-taking strategies, as well as strategies for reducing test anxiety.

Additionally, we will learn and practice techniques for improving understanding, as well as practice skills for skimming and scanning.
